Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I expect to be in the salon?

For every head spa appointment, we require an additional 30mins for the consultation and the follow up. So if you are booked for a 60min Signature session for example, please plan to be in our salon for a total of 90 minutes.

How long/strong is the massage?

Please do not mistake our Head Spa as a "massage.” MASA.KANAI is not a massage parlor. Since our specialists are working and touching your head and scalp throughout the service, the process may feel like a massage. However, our Head Spa methodology was never designed or intended to be a massage. Our concept is rooted in a holistic approach for scalp therapy. We definitely want to make our clients feel relaxed while their are in our chair; nevertheless, we cannot accommodate requests for stronger/longer massages as massages are not the focus of our Head Spa concept.

Can my friend and I get the Head Spa done at the same time?

Unfortunately, we can only accommodate one guest at a time in our private room for our Head Spa; as such, multiple appointments would have to be either back-to-back or at different times/dates.

Are blow outs included?

A blow out is not included with the Head Spa and must be requested as a separate service if desired. Normally after a head spa service, we would simply hand dry the guest's hair. If the guest has especially porous hair, we may sit them under a diffuser to dry the hair. However, if a guest prefers a proper blow dry with styling, that would have to be booked as a separate service. Blow Outs are subject to availability and cannot always be guaranteed after a Head Spa appointment. Availability is dependent on the salon’s schedule. If a guest would prefer to dry their hair, they are more than welcome to do so! We can provide brushes and a blow dryer for this situation.

Will the Head Spa affect my hair color/keratin?

All of our ingredients are safe for any kind of treated hair! However, if you had recently done any kind of chemical services within a week before your Head Spa appointment, there is a chance that the color/keratin may lift during our detoxing process. Therefore, we recommend customers to wait at least a week after any kind of hair treatment before receiving a Head Spa.
We also recommend waiting at least a week after having a Head spa before doing any kind of chemical services. You wouldn’t want to apply chemicals to a freshly cleaned scalp!

Can you do a Head Spa for _____-textured hair?

Our specialist is experienced with all types of hair from thin & fragile, thick & coarse, wavy, curly, porous, to even bald! However, the hair itself is actually not so much of a concern as we will be primarily focusing on the scalp during the Head Spa. At the end of the day, the Head Spa is a scalp treatment. As long as you have a scalp, we can give you a head spa.
We only ask you to make sure that we have proper access to the scalp. We cannot perform services on customers with extensions, braids, or sew-ins as these obstruct access to the scalp and pores.

Is the Head Spa safe for expecting mothers?

Our Head Spa uses completely organic and natural ingredients; therefore, it is completely safe for pregnant customers. However, some guests may be concerned about being exposed to certain herbs and oils such as lavender while they are expecting. Therefore, it would be best to consult your doctor to see if there is anything you should avoid.

Another concern would be that we require guests to lay completely flat on your back during the whole duration of the service. If this is something you are unable to do, then it may be best to wait until after the delivery before trying the head spa.

Can I record myself during the service?

Once in the Head Spa private room, all cell phone usage will be prohibited. Please set your phone to silent mode and set it aside before starting the appointment.

How can I gift a Head Spa to someone else?

Unfortunately, we do not offer gift certificates for purchase. If you have a booked appointment, you can request to use a pre-provided credit card to be used at the time of checkout. This way, the guest receiving the Head Spa wouldn’t have to worry about payment as it would be settled ahead of time. However, if you would like to leave any gratuity, we kindly ask that it would be in cash only.
